In December, Miyah got a little bug. Just after Rosie had one. That’s when it all went down hill.
At the end of December, Miyah caught a bug from Rosie… pretty normal right? As far as we where concerned, calpol and cuddles where the way forward and we new we may have some sleepless nights.
One day, Miyah was very tired, not abnormal for having a bug. Her temp was high so I gave her some more calpol and we relaxed for a little bit. Her temperature did not come down and she seemed a little odd. Next thing I knew, she was having a seizure. She did the typical; shaking, jerking and eyes rolling to the back of her head. Without hesitation i phoned an ambulance, her father and her nan. Everyone arrived an provided help with Rosie and when i got to the hospital, Miyah was diagnosed with Febrile Convulsions.
All was well with Miyah, she had eaten, played and was very good for the doctors, so it was put down as just a seizure due to high temperature. We was told to keep a close eye on her and to let her rest. We did so, and the next coming weeks she was completely normal, apart from myself being a little (more like a lot) anxious and checking on her every 5 minutes to make sure she was not getting too hot.
Fast forward to January 22nd. Miyah was having her usual nap, and my friend Becca was round to have a catch up. Next thing we knew, there was a large bang and I heard Miyah crying. I have never heard her scream like that in my life. It was heartbreaking and something I will never forget. I ran up those stairs as fast as I could and I quickly grabbed her and took her downstairs, I noticed she had a full nappy so I went to get a nappy and wipes to change her. She went limp. I thought she wanted to get down but I looked at her and her eyes where rolling. I quickly out her on the sofa and kept her there and looked at her for about 2 minutes just to make sure, and she was jerking, shaking and overall having another seizure. I called an ambulance, and her dad and Nan and off we went again. This time was different. On the way to the hospital, Miyah was sick. Miyah has never been a sicky baby. Even when she was newborn. It is very rare she is sick, but the paramedic put it down to the fast driving on the way there and we was admitted.
While waiting for a doctor to come and see her, Miyah started to cry and was very ‘weak’. It is the only way I can explain what she was like, but she wasn’t limp. Without warning again, she was sick. This time was a hell of a lot more, and it was everything she has eaten all day. When a nurse walked past and saw us, alarm bells rang and we where rushed to RESUS where she was seen by an emergency on call doctor. The moment we got into RESUS, Miyah was sick again. More alarm bells rang and they decided to give her an emergency CT. They needed to rule out any bleed on her brain, and if she did any damage to the inside of head. At this point I was a mess, phoning my mum, and Michael’s mum to update them. They told me that they would have to out Miyah to sleep for her to be able to stay still for them to be able to get a scan. If she moves, it will not work.
Miyah at this time had enough of all the prodding and poking and she was VERY irritated, getting the needle in to get the general in was hard to the point where Miyah has wore herself down to the point she fell asleep on Michael. At this point she didn’t need much to keep her still for the scan. When we arrived into the scan room they put 0.02ml in her system just to stop her moving her head, and around 3 minutes later… the scan was done. Once we where back in RESUS and the little bit of general wore off, she was back to her normal self. Running around, playing and being a diva.
On the way home, we grabbed some Maccy D’s.. because well… after the day I had, there was not way i was going to be able to cook a meal! The kids loved it. Miyah woofed it down. From the moment she woke up properly from the sedation, she was back to normal and she hasn’t had a seizure since.
Next time Miyah *touch wood she doesn’t* has another seizure, we will have to have a few tests to see if she does have Epilepsy. Just like her dad.
No damage to the head or brain, Miyah is okay and I just wanted to share our story. I would not wish an experience like this on my biggest enemy, it was so painful and felt so worthless as a mum.
My messages are always open if anyone would like to talk, or just rant.
Until next time,
